Nordic Tour 2005

The second year of Nordic Tour is now in the history books. Following the very successful 1st season, the tour still continued to break barriers and attained growth in many areas. There were 350 different players playing on tour and 628 total participations (averaging 105 per event). The tour was also really international this year as there were players from fourteen (14) nations competing!

The total prize purses of the six tour tournaments reached more than 25 000 euros. There were also record high tour bonuses of 3 500 euros given to top players based on the divisional total points.

In all, the tournaments were very high in quality. There were few new additions in the tours rules and requirements this year. Most of the tournaments met and even exceeded the stated requirements. Still, improving the organizing stays one of the main issues that the committee will focus on for the forthcoming seasons. There are issues that need to be clarified in the rules so a more harmonious and high class tour can be achieved and guaranteed in the future.

The Swedish players were again the most successful on tour as they conquered the victory in all the divisions! In fact, out of the 12 top-3 positions in total tour points, Sweden took 9. Finland was the only other country to break into the top-3 positions as they got the 2nd place in the Juniors, and 3rd place in the Open and Masters divisions. See attached tables for top divisional finishers.

The plans for next year are forming up as this is been written. There are visions about expanding the tour to the middle parts of Europe as well. It all depends on the potential organizers though. We are not going to give in with the level of organizing or other NT requirements. As has been done for the past two years, we will have the biggest and best run European tournaments form up the tour again in 2006. The bid for 2006 tournaments will start in a few months and the 2006 tour will be published before the Santa drops you your new discs. Follow the NT page for more info.

For closure, the committee wishes to thank DGWN, Innova, PDGA, Platypus, Frisbeezer and Discmania for their support and effort on the 2005 Nordic Tour.

See you all next year!
